In the Red Room

the sun shuts his eyes in the red room
day becomes night in the red room
grace recedes where danger leads
save a seat for me
I can't find your flaws in the red room
inhibitions thaw in the red room
would it be a sin to let you in
when vodka starts the spin

an empty bottle, my long-lost friend
I swore I'd never see him again
so if he finds me, head for the door
I won't be leaving this room no more

I'm woozy on the tightrope, fainting on a pin
as I try to hold my balance, above the boiling heat
but vigilance lies sleeping when boredom tiptoes in
and pulls the silken stockings from my leaden feet

vanity's high in the red room
the blues turn shy in the red room
life goes pale as drink prevails
connections seem so frail
music purrs in the red room
my emotions blur in the red room
reality bends as I descend
into the lion's den

an empty bottle, my long-lost friend
I swore I'd never see him again
but now he's found me curled on the floor
I won't be leaving this room no more
